To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.”  – David Viscott

“Catch sunbeams in a mirror! A reflection of a sunbeam can melt an iceberg.” – Lara Biyuts

“Here comes the sun, and I say it’s all right” – George Harrison (The Beatles)

In the days of being cooped up, getting enough sunlight is more important than ever… especially if you struggle with cravings!

For centuries, the sun has represented power, life force, vitality, and illumination.

But wait!  There’s more! Sunlight helps the brain’s production of serotonin, the mood-boosting brain chemical that not only helps up feel happy but also suppresses food cravings and binging.

Too little of it can actually activate cravings for junk foods. You know… the ones full of sugar.

You can ward off cravings and the tendency to binge by getting enough “rays.” Open the drapes and the blinds. Let the sunshine in! Work in a windowless office? Take in a power walk at lunchtime… twenty minutes of sunlight is a huge morale-booster. Remember sunscreen and a hat. Mae West said, “Too much of a good thing can be wonderful.” (She also said, “Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.”...but I digress.) That is NOT the case with sunlight’s UV rays. Most sun damage occurs within the first ten to twenty minutes of exposure. The paler your skin, the less melanin it has for absorbing UV rays.  It is reported that using sunscreen and protecting ourselves from too much sun could prevent up to 80% of skin cancers. Keep that in mind when tempted to skip the precautions. Just sayin’.
